Nina Long, The Best Man alum is taking on the role of “Catherine” in the YA romantic drama, Life in a Year. The character is the spouse of Howard’s no-nonsense patriarch and the supportive mother of Jaden Smith’s Daryn. The filming in Toronto movie centers on 17-year old Daryn’s love for his cancer diagnosed girlfriend Isabelle, played by Cara Delevigne, and his desire to make the little time they have left together as rich and fulfilling as possible. Besides the Empire reunion of sorts, Long will be also working with her on-screen Fresh Prince of Bel Air boyfriend of a couple of decades ago. Will Smith is producing the Mitja Okorn directed pic for Sony and Overbrook Entertainment along with his business partner James Lassiter and Marc Bienstock.

Terrence Howard, who stars as the ruthless patriarch Lucious Lyon on Fox’s mega-hit series Empire, has come aboard YA romantic drama Life in a Year, directed by Mitja Okorn for Will Smith's Overbrook Entertainment. Stony Blyden (Hunter Street, Hope Springs Eternal) has landed a supporting role, joining Jaden Smith and Cara Delevingne in the film written Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews. Howard will play the proud, no-nonsense father of Daryn (Smith). Daryn falls for punkish girl Isabelle, who has been diagnosed with cancer and given a year to live. He sets out to give her a full life in the little time they have. Blyden plays Kiren, Daryn’s talkative, girl-obsessed and loyal best friend. Marc Bienstock is producing along with Overbrook, and production is slated to being this spring.
